CHILD AND YOUTH

Your child’s health begins with prenatal and maternity care

The Early Years –
Child Development Programs & Supports

Healthy growth and development in the first years of life lay the foundation for health, learning and behavior and can prevent or mitigate chronic conditions later in life. A healthy start for children is instrumental in continued health for the child, their family, and their community.

Multiple areas of growth and development occur through infancy and early childhood. These include:

  • Physical health and well-being: physical development and refinement of coordination and motor skills.
  • Social competence: development of social skills to get along with others and explore new things.
  • Emotional maturity: emotional growth, including the expression of a range of emotions.
Child Development Centre

Offers a wide range of programs based on the needs of the child, youth and family. Experienced and skilled therapists, consultants, interventionists, educators and support workers partner with families to support health, growth, and development.

Community Child & Youth Support

Offers a program to teach skill development, transition support and navigation for children and youth who may be experiencing significant difficulties related to their thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Disease Prevention

Vaccines are an important way to protect your child from serious and life-threatening diseases. You can keep them safe and healthy by making sure they get all recommended vaccines on time.

Routine vaccinations are recommended on a schedule based on your child’s age. No matter where you live in Canada, all or almost all of these vaccines are provided for free.

Register and book your child’s vaccines via the Get Vaccinated System or call 1-833-838-2323. Vaccine appointments are available at the Fort St. John Medical Clinic and at participating pharmacies.

Vaccine Schedule for Infants & Young Children (0-6 years)

The schedule below lists the vaccines recommended for infants and young children and when. These routine vaccines are free. Following this schedule gives your child the best protection from many serious diseases
