About North Peace Division of Family Practice

KEY INITIATIVES

We have many key initiatives focused on physician recruitment and retention, long term care, maternity care and our Primary Care Network.

Physician Recruitment

Recruiting Family Doctors is a top priority. We are very active in our recruitment efforts and this year we will be attending several conferences looking for Family Doctors and Locums.

We have a successful teaching program which includes both 1st and 2nd year Residents, with an excellent retention rate. On average, 3 out of 4 residents decide to stay and practice in our community each year.

See how we are promoting the work and life opportunities and benefits in the North Peace.

Physician Retention

The North Peace Division supports Family Doctors with REEF, Hospital Inpatient Unit, Long Term Care, Team Based Care, Continuing Medical Education, and within their practice. We will be working with the City of Fort St. John and community partners to develop a retention strategy.

Physician Learning Opportunities

The North Peace Division works in collaboration with Family Doctors and Northern Health to identify learning opportunities.

Primary Care Network

The North Peace PCN, an initiative of Ministry of Health, represents a partnership between the North Peace Division of Family Practice, First Nations Health Authority, local First Nations and Northern Health.

The North Peace PCN works to:
  • Leverage and enhance new and existing resources, and partnerships to develop ongoing, continuous care for patients whose complex situations may present barriers to accessing care through traditional sources.
  • Collaborate with, and listen to, Indigenous partners to understand priorities, and incorporate principles of respect, reconciliation, and cultural safety into any actions taken.
  • Support the primary care homes as collaborative, team-based sites that can provide wrap around care for the patients, relieving pressure from Family Doctors and Nurse Practitioners.
